"Back in the old days
when we went to parties

there was always the moment of arriving at the house or building and seeing the action inside from the quiet, cool, lonely sidewalk or driveway.

We would pause and take in the lit scenes of joy before joining.

Those vignettes though were never the bigger picture.

They were broken up by the windows and showed a couple here or a trio there or a person by themselves.

Here we are by ourselves inside, for now, but it could be that the view from outside hasn't changed."
